Our culture has seen the fascination of the selfie phenomenon on the rise. It’s a trendy concept to try and capture yourself, your image, your identity in a photo that you take yourself.
Pastor Joel submits the idea that we can not capture or realize our identity in it’s totality without help. We need God to show us who we truly are.
The Selfie series is all about knowing our identity in Christ. The book of Ephesians says much on the subject. In order to live the way we ought to, we first have to understand who we are.
1. Insta Identity
Every world problem comes from a misunderstanding of who we are.
You don’t achieve your identity - you receive it! Identity comprehension is the key to life transformation. We live for our identity, not for our idolatry.
2. It's Not About Narnia
Our temptation is to find our identity in things other than Christ. Aslan said, “I have brought you here so that you might know me better there.”
It’s not about Narnia- it’s all about Jesus.
3. Saved And Reconciled
The work has already been done. Grace has made you saved through faith. It’s not you- it’s the gift of God- not your works!
God must work in us before He can work through us. Once we are saved, we aren’t sinless, but we should sin less.
We forget who we are. Our identity is in our present and our future as God sees us; not in our past as how we see it.
4. The Insane Love Of God
Paul told us, “we are going to suffer - don’t lose heart!”
You don’t get your identity from your affliction, but your identity will get you through your affliction.
The love of God is insane. (def. “mad, nonsensical, outrageous, excessive, extravagant.”)
5. Gifts, Babies, Stapes, And Growth Spurts Of Love
In the Kingdom, success is defined by how many people you serve. In the world, success is defined by how many people serve you.
Are we doing our job?
6. Real Imitation
Imitate God! Get to know you Dad!
“Be imitators of God as dearly loved children of God.” - that’s Paul’s thesis statement.
If you want to look more like Jesus, look at Jesus more.
7. An Army Of Love
